ABOVE AND BELOW

Plein Air Painting Workshop at The Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu , NM

with Meredith Nemirov – October 11-17th, 2009

Join us as we return for our fifth year of painting the landscape in O’Keeffe country at the Ghost Ranch in Northern New Mexico . Every year the painting experience gets better as we get to know the landscape more intimately. This year, as suggested from the title of the workshop, we will be focusing our attention on two of our favorite locations on the Ranch.

The view from above on the Mesa has inspired many of our paintings and we will return to paint the Pedernal to the west and Chimney Rock and the distant view to the north.. We will have more time to turn our view to the canyon walls and valley floor.

For our other location we will return to the Painted Desert Road . We have all been inspired to paint the unusual land formations and colors at this site and it has been the choice of most painters to return to on their own.

You are welcome to work in any medium but all demonstrations will be done in watercolor. This is not a workshop for beginning painters or those who have not painted plein air.Basic watercolor techniques will not be taught in the field, but individual instruction will be available throughout the day. Each day will start at our location with a short demo and end back at our studio for a group critique. One on one critiques will take place in the evening.

You will notice some changes in this year’s schedule, still a five full days of painting! I have made the date two weeks later in hopes that the days will be a little cooler and we will be in time for the breathtaking fall colors. The weekend of the start of the workshop is the Abiquiu Studio Tour and the weekend at the end is the El Rito Studio Tour. You can come early and stay later to see the work of local artists, so a studio tour will not be part of the workshop this year.

A deposit payment of $100 by April 1st will hold your place for the workshop. This workshop has filled quickly so do not hesitate. The cost of the workshop only if $450.  If you need room and board the cost is $950. The accomodations are two to a room with a shared bath between two rooms and include three meals. If you are camping you are responsible for obtaining your own campsite.

Their will be no refund after July 31st unless there is another artist to take your place. I will send a comprehensive supply list and more specific schedule  as we get closer to the date.

Please do not hesitate to call or e-mail with any questions! I am looking forward to another great week of painting in Abiquiu!
