During her education at a small liberal arts school in Vermont (Bennington College), Courtney concentrated her studies in architecture and sculpture. Travel took her westward to Colorado for renovation work, where she spent four years in Telluride working for a clothing designer, which inspired later business ventures. Further west, she went to San Francisco, and Courtney found herself amongst the Mission District's prolific art scene while furthering her education in Interior Design at U.C. Berkley's extension program. Eager to blend talent and career she founded Armored Furniture, a furniture design business where her one of a kind pieces were sold nationwide. In a search for a place to expand upon her vision, Courtney decided on Ridgway, CO, where, with the addition of the talents of Bobby Martin, Armored Furniture evolved into Armored Fabrication. Later Landform Design Build was formed to meet the needs of the growing area.
