At the age of 10, Karen Griffiths started writing and never stopped. Karen has been doing freelance journalism for 40 years. Over the past 12 years, she has been actively submitting to two local small-town newspapers with her own historical interest columns. She has conducted numerous workshops on poetry, creative writing and oral history. She has been published in numerous publications and magazines including "Empire" (the magazine section of the Denver Post) and the national magazine, "Delta Kappa Gamma". Karen also recently released a book, REFLECTIONS ON LAKE LENORE (available at Buckskin Bookseller and Cimarron Books).

Karen is a 4th Generation Colorado Native who grew-up close to and, to a large extent, raised by her paternal grandparents. Her grandfather was a natural story teller..... telling true-life accounts of his childhood, youth and days as a young man. As a child and adolescent, without knowing any specifics about oral history, she essentially became hooked on it through the stories of her grandfather. She went on to build much, if not most, of her writing around oral histories she collected. Her particular focus for all of her writing has been the American West.

This is a great class that would be perfect for anyone that is interested in securing their memories via oral history. This workshop is designed to be a motivational time spent covering the basics of oral history, spotlighting the ethics and standards needed, plus proposing varied approaches and applications of oral history as a means of preserving memories. All of these items will be accomplished while the group has fun together.

Instructor and Author, Karen Griffiths believes that fun is the name of the game. All levels are welcome in this fun and creative class though High School to Adults are highly encouraged.
