| Course Description |
Walking in this World: Continuing the Creative Journey This six week class continues the creative journey on which author Julia Cameron takes readers in her groundbreaking book, The Artist's Way. The class presents students with the next steps in discovering, recovering, and utilizing their creativity. Using Cameron's strategies and exercises, we will learn and practice ways of inhabiting the world we draw on for our art with a sense of wonder. And we will learn techniques for breaking through difficulties that can arise as we actively pursue our creative lives. This workshop is designed to benefit amateur students who would like to discover more about effectively using their creative talents or professionals who are already working in an art medium or writing genre or musical field. A unique component of the class is that we will adopt the practice of walking both alone during the week and doing a brief walking meditation together at the beginning of each session. Through these weekly walks we will learn how we as artists can tap into our imagination, the realm of larger thoughts long known to shamans and spiritual seekers. Class sessions will include discussion of the two chapters assigned for that week as well as short verbal and writing exercises designed to free thoughts and provoke discussion. Each student will also keep a daily journal during the workshop. In addition, there will be weekly "artist dates" - individual activities each person will choose to feed his or her own artistic soul.
