About the Instructor:

Breigh Peterson has been the farm manager of Buckhorn Gardens in Montrose, CO since 2006.  Buckhorn Gardens grows food all year long at 6700 feet in unheated green houses for CSA and market.   Breigh was also the Farm Manager at Tomten Farm in Placerville, Co (elevation 9,000 feet) in the summer of 2006.  Breigh has also previously worked on farms in Vermont.    You can follow the Buckhorn Gardens blog at www.buckhorngaredens.blogspot.com

GO Date
GO DATE:  April 23, 2010
The "go" date is the date at which WCA determines whether there are enough students or not to run the class.  If this is a class you are interested in, please be sure to enroll before the "Go" date (and encourage your friends to do so as well) so that we can be sure to run the class! We will notify you at the end of the business day on the "GO" date if the class is to be cancelled so that you can make other plans for that date, but ideally, we'll see you at the class!

 

 

Course Description
About the Class:
This is an opportunity to learn how to grow food for your family at higher elevation all year long.  We will focus on soil fertility, watering, vegetable types, green house designs and care, pest management, companion planting and food preservation techniques. The class will be taught on site on the farm.  We will tour the greens houses and you will have an opportunity to see first-hand on we grow food all year long.
