ABOUT  SPECIAL AND NEW CLASSES OFFERED:

ABOUT POINTE CLASSES:
Pointe work can be very dangerous to dancers who are not prepared and in class enough during the week. We require that students are enrolled in at least two ballet classes a week in order to be registered for this class. Students must also be at least 10 years of age and approved by Miss Natasha before registering.  Pointe students must be enrolled in an additional 2 ballet classes per week in order to participate.

ABOUT COMPANY CLASSES:
Company classes provide performance opportunity and preparation for dancers. Students will be learning different choreography every week and will perform at local functions in our area. In addition to small performances, students will do one showcase in February.  Company students must be already enrolled in 1 ballet or jazz class per week in addition to the company and must be approved by Natasha. The company is not a technique class, but instead gives students a chance to perform and learn different choreography.   Dancers who miss company class the week before a performance date will be unable to perform in the next upcoming performance.  All Company Students will need to purchase costumes that will consist of a leotard and skirts in addition to their regular dance shoes. Cost of costumes will be between $25 and $45 and will be worn at the dance functions throughout the year.

ABOUT BELLY DANCE WITH MARSHA WEST:
Originating from various Middle Eastern Cultures, this beautiful, mystical dance corresponds to the natural cycles and rhythms within us.  The dance is characterized by undulating movements of the abdomen and hips and by graceful arm movements.  Isolations are the beginning of all the movements and all movements are born from our center ~ the navel in our belly. There are many folk and classical styles.  The American style is a progressive fusion of various movements from the different Middle Eastern Cultures along with new creative movements we learn from each other. Marsha has several beautiful choreographies to share and many choreographies yet to create.  She will teach the basic movements and will introduce the intricate layers when students are ready to embellish their moves.  Many of my dances include the beautiful colorful veils. All of Marsha's classes will begin with warm up stretches and focus on the center.  Students will learn the basic isolations and combinations to prepare for the dances.  Classes will end with a relaxation stretch of gratitude.

ABOUT WEST AFRICAN DANCE:
A high-spirited, high-powered rhythmic dance experience that combine body, mind, and spirit in an energetic union of the music and dance of the people of West Africa. This electrifying class loosens up the body and exposes you to a part of West African culture.

ABOUT CELTIC DANCE:
Irish Step Dance, also known as Celtic dance, is or newest class offered by Weehawken Dance. Made popular by "Riverdance" and "Lord of the Dance", Celtic dancers stand very straight with arms tightly held at their sides while doing intricate foot movement. Students will learn the fundamentals of Irish Step Dance including Jigs and circle formations.

ABOUT MODERN DANCE:
Modern dance technique is designed to develop the mind, body and spirit to be an expressive communicator through movement. Structured technical exercises that condition the body for strength, coordination and flexibility are developed. Physical activities which focus on the aspects of space, time, shape, and movement dynamics are explored through individual work as well as group participation

Please be sure your child understands your family rules and arrangements for safety and pick-up at any WCA class or program.

If children under the age of 12 are found to consistently be left unattended and are disrupting other classes, WCA reserves the right to remove the child from WCA programs for the remainder of the semester without refund.

Scholarships Available - New Scholarship Procedures and Policies
WCA is pleased to offer scholarships for classes and workshops to deserving people interested in taking advantage of the cultural and fine arts events offered.
If you wish to participate in a class and are unable to meet the cost, please see our scholarship pages and application here

*Students may apply for up to two scholarships per semester - with the maximum amount of each scholarship to be 50% of the cost of the class or $100.

*Dance Scholarships must be applied-for at the beginning of the semester - as the scholarship "pool" will be divided-out each semester according to how much is in the fund at the start of each semester.

*Also, please note that it is our expectation that Dance Scholarship recipients volunteer for Weehawken for a minimum of at least 8 hours per class scholarshipped.

Belly Dance
Students will need to wear loose clothing to begin with that allows freedom of movement, especially for the belly.  Once the students become dedicated, they will probably want to purchase or make traditional costumes -- as it makes it even more fun to dance.  Marsha, for example, wears harem pants, a hip sash, an athletic bra and a loose top.

Payment/Withdrawl Policy
No refunds or reductions are made for missed classes.
WCA must be notified in writing (wcaouray@yahoo.com or PO BOX 734, Ridgway) if a student is withdrawing from a class or requesting a refund.

The withdrawal date will be recorded as the date that WCA receives written notice of the withdrawal, NOT of the last class attended.

All tuition rates include a $20 administrative fee per class, which is non-refundable if a student withdraws after the start date for the class.

If a student withdraws before the start date for the class, WCA will retain $10 of the administrative fee for the class, and the balance will then be refunded.

If, for any reason, WCA cancels a workshop, you will be notified soon after the start date and will receive a refund.

Tuition for all classes is due in-full by or before May 1st.  Failure to pay by May 1st will result in a student being pulled from classes and the show.  In addition, no other purchases from Weehawken (tickets, shoes, dancewear, etc) can be made until the balance is paid.
