Visual Poetry: 8 week series with Cheri Isgreen

This is an in-depth color and composition course that runs for 8 weeks. The format will include:-introduction of concepts-exercises to gain a deep understanding of each concept-studio work-extensions to explore beyond the obvious applications/home studio work.
There are 7 modules, with each module building to more complex concepts and applications. The modules spiral to revisit concepts in increasingly sophisticated elaborations. The 7th module pulls everything together in an integrated composition utilizing ideas, skills, and concepts developed over the full course. The 8th session is a celebration, an art show, a review, a timeline of learning, a critique, and an in-depth sharing of ideas.
Originally conceived for a quilting guild to help them better understand use of color, this course is appropriate to any media. The course takes a deep dive into color theory and how to use color concepts to strategic advantage by applying the principles of design to color theory. It is equivalent to a college level full semester design course. As students register, it will be imperative to know what media they will work in. Each student will be accommodated in her chosen medium. Each session runs 2.5 hours. There will be extensions each week to take the presentation material to deeper levels. Each subsequent session includes discussion and presentation of individuals’ artistic solutions to the questions posed in the previous week’s module.MATERIALS: open to media of choice; students must have familiarity with chosen medium. Recommended for advanced beginners and intermediate students. Also recommended to accomplished artists wishing to pursue their inner muse to develop greater creativity or to pursue better fluency with a different medium. Students will bring their personal art kits to class. Photographers should bring cameras and computers with software editing applications. Photographers must be familiar with their software. Alternatively, photographers can bring smartphones with choice of photo editing apps. This course is not appropriate for non-artists wanting to learn beginning art techniques.
