SUMMARY:First Friday Opening Reception at 610 Arts
DESCRIPTION:CONTAINMENT ~ An Exhibition by Michelle Montague at the Sherbino’s 610 Arts Collective gallery\n\n\n\nContainment by Michelle Montague | September 29–October 30\, 2026 at 610 Arts Collective\n\n\n\nOn display September 29 – October 30\, 2026\n\n\n\nArtist Reception: Friday\, October 2 | 5:00–7:00 PM | Free!\n\n\n\n610 Arts Collective presents CONTAINMENT\, a new exhibition by Ridgway artist Michelle Montague. \n\n\n\nIn this body of work\, Montague places her signature clay figures within mixed-media box assemblages\, creating intimate environments that hold both personal emotion and cultural tension. Begun in the aftermath of the 2024 election\, the series reflects her response to current events\, balancing anxiety\, vulnerability\, and frustration with an enduring hope for change. \n\n\n\nUsing wooden crates\, found objects\, and sculpted human forms\, Montague builds layered scenes that invite viewers to look closely and question their first impressions. The boxes serve as both practical display structures and symbolic containers—framing each narrative while intensifying the sense of confinement\, exposure\, and emotional pressure within the work. \n\n\n\nMontague’s sculptural practice has long explored perspective and the human body. In CONTAINMENT\, nude figures become vessels for vulnerability and connection\, revealing the complicated ways we relate to one another\, to power\, and to the environments we inhabit.

Throughout the class\, students are encouraged to ask questions\, observe his techniques in real time\, and gain insight into the artistic decisions that go into creating an original painting. \n\n\n\nThe focus of this workshop is on learning Wayne’s process and building skills and confidence—not necessarily on completing a finished painting. Participants will leave with practical techniques and a deeper understanding of acrylic landscape painting that they can continue to apply in their own artwork. \n\n\n\nStudents should bring their own acrylic paints\, brushes\, and palette (Weehawken has palettes available if needed). DESCRIPTION:Doors: 6:00 PM ||  Show: 6:30 PM – This show is at the Montrose Pavilion\, brought to you in partnership by The Sherbino and Weehawken Creative Arts \n\n\n\nNative Rhythms\, Native Jazz: The Genre-Bending Journey of R. Carlos Nakai\, AmoChip Dabney\, and Will Clipman  \n\n\n\n$25 in advance General Admission (GA) Seats || $30 in advance for reserved section seats (no longer available day-of-show) || $32 GA day of show || (you will select the actual seat in the diagram below to purchase reserved section seats.  If you want GA seats\, just scroll below the map to buy GA seats) \n\n\n\nWhere Tradition Meets Innovation\, and Boundaries Dissolve in Sound \n\n\n\nAmidst the vast tapestry of American music\, few collaborations illustrate the spirit of genre-bending innovation as vividly as that of R. Carlos Nakai\, AmoChip Dabney\, and Will Clipman. At the crossroads of Native American flute\, jazz\, world percussion\, and contemporary soundscapes\, these three musicians have crafted a sonic journey that blurs the lines between tradition and modernity\, weaving stories that speak to the heart and stir the soul. \n\n\n\nConsidered the world’s premier performer of the Native American flute\, R. Carlos Nakai holds the distinction of being the only American Native performer performing in the Indigenous genre to have a Platinum Record-Canyon Trilogy- with over one million sold. He serves as an effective ambassador in reaching new concert audiences consistently drawing capacity or near capacity houses. Nakai has a successful career in many genres of music. He is an eleven-time Grammy® nominee who has many fans who follow him into the concert hall. \n\n\n\nAs one of the most renowned and influential American Indian musicians of the modern era\, Nakai has spent decades weaving the ancient sounds of his heritage with contemporary musical forms\, creating a body of work that transcends genre and brings Indigenous traditions to audiences worldwide. \n\n\n\nNakai’s upbringing was steeped in the stories\, songs\, and communal values of his ancestors. Growing up in the Southwest United States\, he experienced both the challenges and the beauty of life as an Indigenous person in a changing world. His family’s encouragement and his exposure to traditional ceremonies laid the foundation for his later artistic journey. He also gained an early appreciation for the importance of cultural preservation—a theme that would become central to his life’s work. \n\n\n\nNakai’s approach to the Native American flute is both innovative and respectful. Rather than simply replicating traditional songs\, he has expanded the instrument’s expressive possibilities. Through new fingering techniques\, extended melodies\, and harmonics\, he blends the flute’s haunting tones with elements of jazz\, classical\, and world music. He also composes original works for flute integrating influences from his heritage with contemporary sensibilities. His music carries a universal message of peace\, healing\, and connection to the land. \n\n\n\nSome of his most celebrated collaborations include partnerships with composer and pianist Peter Kater\, guitarist William Eaton\, and virtuoso world percussionist Will Clipman. These collaborations have resulted in genre-defying works that unite traditions from around the world\, such as the Grammy-nominated albums “How the West Was Lost\,” “Ancestral Voices\,” and “Awaken the Fire”.  Nakai’s recordings have reached listeners worldwide and have been used in films\, documentaries\, and therapeutic contexts. \n\n\n\nNakai has also been an outspoken advocate for Indigenous rights and cultural preservation. Through his music and public work\, he highlights the importance of land\, language\, and ceremony\, urging others to recognize the wisdom embedded in Indigenous traditions. His efforts have contributed to broader conversations about representation\, respect\, and the role of the arts in cultural resilience.

SUMMARY:Spring Break Theatre Camp "Twice Upon a Time"
DESCRIPTION:Location\n\n\n\n\n\nCost\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Online\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMonday March 30 – Friday April 3\, 9:00-3:00 \n\n\n\nJoin Erin Cawley for a fantastical and fun-filled Spring Break Theatre Camp! This week-long camp focuses on building theatre skills while creating and performing a short fractured fairy-tale play\, “Twice Upon a Time”. \n\n\n\nDaily activities include: \n\n\n\n\nImprovisational theatre games\n\n\n\nSet and prop creation\n\n\n\nRehearsals\n\n\n\nCollaboration\, teamwork & fun!\n\n\n\nPreparing a fully realized performance in just one week\n\n\n\n\nThe camp culminates in a live performance on Friday\, April 3rd at the Sherbino Theatre. Doors open at 1:00 PM\, and the show begins at 1:30 PM. \n\n\n\nAfter the performance\, students will participate in the “strike” (theatre cleanup) until 3:00 PM\, learning important theatre behind-the-scenes procedures and skills. \n\n\n\nTuition includes two complimentary show tickets per enrollment.Additional tickets may be purchased at the door. \n\n\n\nPlay Synopsis: Twice Upon a Time \n\n\n\nGrandma doesn’t really like fairy tales — she prefers adventure stories about pirates and astronauts. So when her grandkids ask for fairy tales at bedtime\, Grandma puts some very silly twists on the classics. \n\n\n\n“Twice upon a time…” begins each goofy retelling.Cindy-Rella is now an obsessive neat freak who refuses to leave her chores to attend the prince’s barbecue (even with a bouncy castle!).With no Big Bad Wolf in sight\, Big Bad Bear ends up threatening both the Three Little Pigs and Little Red Riding Pants. Even Goldilocks can’t figure out why she keeps popping up in all the wrong stories! \n\n\n\nDespite their protests\, the children beg for more. Grandma continues with Snow White and the Four Dwarves (because four is plenty)\, and Grumplegrapeskin — a magical goblin who just wants the game show host to remember his name. \n\n\n\nThis charming one-act play features five fractured fairy tales packed with kooky characters and big laughs. \n\n\n\nAbout the Instructor: Erin Cawley \n\n\n\nErin Cawley is a freelance director and theatre educator based in Ouray\, CO. She is the Executive Director of the Ouray County Performing Arts Guild (OCPAG) and Board President of Ouray Made. \n\n\n\nPreviously\, Erin served as Chair of the Performing Arts Department at the Lincoln School in Providence\, RI\, overseeing theatre and music education for students from Pre-K through 12th grade. \n\n\n\nShe is an Associate Member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC). SUMMARY:Realistically Speaking—It's All Joyfully Abstract!
DESCRIPTION:Location\n\n\n\n\n\nCost\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Online\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPainting Workshop with Mary Pat Ettinger \n\n\n\nBreak away from the urge to “copy” what you see and instead discover the abstract shapes\, colors\, and relationships that bring a subject to life. By letting go of labels and focusing on form\, value\, and color\, paintings often become more realistic—and far more expressive. \n\n\n\nIn this workshop\, students will explore how abstraction strengthens realism and helps capture the essence of what first inspired you to pick up a brush. The class will work with acrylics in a watercolor style\, emphasizing loose\, joyful mark-making and intuitive observation.Reference images will be provided\, or students may bring their own\, and leave with a completed painting. \n\n\n\nAbout Mary Pat Ettinger – Artist & InstructorMary Pat Ettinger’s work is often described as peaceful and uplifting. Having lived much of her life in rural settings\, she draws daily inspiration from solitude\, natural beauty\, and the simple joys around her. From laundry hanging in the sun to flower gardens bursting through picket fences\, and from sweeping canyons to mountain vistas\, Mary Pat paints what she loves and what surrounds her. \n\n\n\nThrough her art\, she hopes to share the serenity and gratitude she experiences every day—the songs of birds\, the hum of crickets\, and the quiet of the pastures near her home. Her paintings aim to encourage\, inspire\, and provide a sense of calm and beauty amid life’s challenges.
