artists will learn how to source their own materials, experiment with both traditional and
innovative techniques, and bring their ideas to life through a series of hands-on projects. Along
the way, young artists will deepen their connection to the land, expand personal creative practices, and enjoy the process of getting their hands dirty. This class welcomes diverse learners, offering a
supportive space for exploration, expression, and encouragement.

Week 1 – Molding Mud: Making Clay Forms

In this class, young artists will get hands-on experience working with wild clay to create their
own unique forms. Using locally sourced clay, participants will explore its history, experiment
with traditional building techniques, and develop personalized works of art. Young artists will gain an understanding of collecting, processing and molding wild clay they can find from their own
backyard! Come prepared to dig in and get a little messy during this fun learning experience!

Week 2 – Grind and Smash: Creating Natural Paint

In this class, young artists will discover the magic of making their own paint from nature’s
palette! By grinding rocks, smashing berries, and experimenting with materials like dirt, wild
plants, spices, and foods, they’ll learn how to create a wide range of colors. With the addition of
natural binders such as water, honey, eggs, or oil, these pigments transform into vibrant paints
ready for use. Each artist will then bring their colors to life by creating a personal masterpiece.
Join us to explore the beauty and colors of the natural world!

Week 3 – Expressions on Clay: Painting Wild Clay Forms

In this class, young artists will bring their ideas to life by painting on clay forms. While learning
about the history of pottery and exploring traditional designs, they’ll create their own unique
patterns that reflect their interests and self-expression. Using natural paints, students will decorate pottery that has been transformed through the ancient process of pit firing. Get ready
to witness the magic of turning the earth into a one-of-a-kind artwork!
