Clay & Ritual: Handbuilding for Everyday Moments with Ninazuma Pottery
November 1st & 2nd, and Dec 13th, 5-7pm
East corner of the Skol Design Manufacturing Building, Loretta Ct, Ouray
Life often moves at a nonstop pace, and even our daily routines can start to feel automatic. In this workshop, we’ll slow things down by handbuilding pottery pieces designed with intention for everyday rituals – whether that’s an altar piece, an incense holder, or a cup you use to mindfully enjoy your favorite drink. Each participant will create one piece for themselves and one to gift to a friend, extending the practice of presence and care outward. Together, we’ll explore clay as a way to reconnect with the present moment, creating objects that bring meaning and mindfulness into daily life.
All materials included: Clay, tools, glazes, and kiln firings – everything you need to craft your own mindful ritual pieces. Just bring your intention, curiosity, and a willingness to slow down and create. Handbuilding takes place November 1st and 2nd, and glazing will be on December 13th, with finished pieces available for pickup after that in Ouray or Ridgway.
About Becca ニ奈 Doll-Tyler is a ceramic artist living in between Ouray & Ridgway, Colorado, on the traditional homelands of the Nuche/Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱. As a proud second-generation Okinawan-American, her work is deeply rooted in heritage, memory, and connection to the natural world. She creates functional pottery that invites mindfulness, ritual, and a sense of belonging through pieces meant to be used, cherished, and shared.
Becca enjoys teaching pottery workshops as a way to honor her ancestors while also fostering community and creativity in her mountain home. Her practice is inspired by both the traditions of her family’s island in the Ryukyu/Loochoo archipelago, and the mountain peaks, winding rivers, vast deserts, and expansive ocean landscapes that surround us.
When she’s not in the studio, Becca can often be found tending her garden, volunteering with Ouray Mountain Rescue, or adventuring outdoors.
