After-School Art for Ages 8-12 – Session 2: “Colorful Cultures“

October 21 @ 3:15 pm – 4:45 pm

SESSION 2 (4 WEEKS • OCTOBER 21 – NOVEMBER 7)

Explore the vibrant colors, traditions, and folk art of Mexico and South America through four unique projects inspired by artists and cultures from across the region. Students will discover how artists use pattern, color, storytelling, and craftsmanship to celebrate their heritage. Projects may include Alebrijes (Fantastic Creature) Sculptures, Sugar Skull Chalk Portraits, and Mixed Media Peruvian/Andean Llama Arpilleras. 

Students will experiment with a variety of materials and techniques while exploring sculpture, drawing, collage, textiles, pattern, and design.

A student art reception will be held in December. Students will take home their collected works in the days following the event—and may choose to sell their artwork or simply share it with pride.

What to Expect in Our Youth Art Classes (Ages 8–12)

Students explore exciting, inspiring themes while experimenting with a variety of materials and techniques. Drawing inspiration from well-known artists and design styles, young artists are guided in discovering their own creative voice in a supportive, studio-like environment. These classes foster a love of art through hands-on projects, playful experimentation, and an introduction to key artistic principles—helping students build confidence, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for the creative process.
