Join professional actor Maire Higgins, and comedian and founder of The Fig comedy troupe Miranda Beck, as they bring you “The Funny”: a crash-course in standup comedy and improv games. Whether you are a performer by trade wanting to sharpen your skills or a beginner just looking to have fun, this class offers a welcoming, supportive, and FUN environment that is open to everyone! Come play games, meet new friends, and learn how improvisational skills can benefit your life both onstage and offstage. Join us and discover the power of “Yes, And…” for yourself!
Miranda on comedy: “Comedy is much more than going for laughs. It’s like a fun therapy. Comedy is filled with emotions and can teeter a line between hilarious and relatable sadness,” Beck says. “It gives people the opportunity to think and reflect on things they notice about themselves and the world. Which I don’t think we all do enough. It’s like hydrating: the hardest thing to keep consistent. It brings people together to talk and share and garner a sense of community. Vulnerability is one of the most challenging and most rewarding parts of comedy. Can we set our egos aside and connect without judgement?”
Miranda Beck has participated in many different kinds of performances since joining the telluride family. She made her debut performance in 2017 with Telluride Theatre; a part with no words: burlesque! This jump started her journey to overcoming her stage-fright. She went on to perform and write for multiple shows; including plays, puppet shows, musicals, kids plays, immersive theater, and finally she was brave enough to create The Fig, in order to pursue her true passion, comedy. She has Telluride, and it’s beautiful people, to thank for the open arms and ample opportunities to learn and perform. These days she is focusing on Fig specific shows and workshops.
Maire Higgins was most recently seen on stage as Samantha in SORRY, WRONG CHIMNEY! (Maples Repertory Theatre). Selected credits include; Rosalind – AS YOU LIKE IT (Telluride Theatre), Macduff – MACBETH (Telluride Theatre) Antonio – TEMPEST (Telluride Theatre), #13 – THE WOLVES (BETC), Charlotte Corday, THE REVOLUTIONISTS (BETC) Principal Cast – LOVE,LOSS AND WHAT I WORE (National Tour) Mom – MOONSONG, OR SON AND MOM (Yale Cabaret) The Youth –AS DREAMS ARE MADE OF (Samuel Beckett Theatre). Former ComedySportZ Professional Player and performing member of Renegade Improv, and Improv She Wrote in Dublin, Ireland. Screen credits include large brand commercial work and several independent features.
