Workshop Description:

Drop the facade and get real stupid. Explore ways to bring depth to any performance through authentic connection, physicality, and expression. In this workshop we’ll discover the real you through game, finding simplicity, staying present, and exploring the power of failure and vulnerability. This workshop is rooted in clowning philosophy–no red noses required!  We use techniques and exercises from improv, clown, and theater to expand performance. The tools learned from this workshop are applicable for acting, improv, stand-up, sketch and will help you create a whole body comedy practice for showing up authentically in the moment and letting the funny be beautiful.  NO experience necessary.  Be prepared to laugh 🙂

Instructor Bio:

Alissa went to school for Acting and Psychology.  She trained at the Atlantic Acting School, the People’s Improv Theater in NYC, Rise Comedy and currently performs regularly around Denver.  She teaches applied improv for business development and team building.  Alissa brings childlike wonder to her performance with the wit of a studied professional. She’s a silly goose and a master of characters. She has been performing for over 20 years, but if you ask her Mom, she’d say Alissa has been perfecting the art of play her entire life.

Alissa Ahlberg is also one half of the Juls n’Lis comedy hour, with her friend and fellow clown, Julianna Beckert. Juls n’Lis have been performing their clown-improv hybrid show in Denver for the past 3 years. Their fans describe their playful brand of comedy as physically dynamic, indisputably entertaining, and consistently funny. They also perform in the premiere clown troupe Idiot Theatre that bridges improv, sketch and clown for a fully immersive show.  Studying under the guidance of LA’s premiere comedy teachers Jet Eveleth and Chad Damiani, Juls and Lis teach classes and lead workshops to share their knowledge of deeper, richer comedy and help others learn how to build their own comedic voice.
